Opus One captures place on 2020 Cleantech 100 list

Opus One Solutions is one of 12 Canadian Companies to Capture a Place in the 2020 Global Cleantech 100

TORONTO,ON – January 22, 2020: Opus One Solutions, a software engineering and solutions company aiming to create intelligent, connected and sustainable energy networks with its cutting-edge GridOS® software platform, was named a 2020 Global Cleantech 100 company by Cleantech Group. It was one of 12 Canadian companies to achieve this feat.

“We are honoured to be on the Global Cleantech roster of the world’s 100 most promising clean technology firms for the third year in a row,” said Hari Subramaniam, Chief of Strategic Growth, Opus One Solutions. “At Opus One, we’re building world-class energy solutions to meet the evolving needs and modernization demands of the electricity grid and the economy around it to accelerate the energy transition.”

The Honourable Seamus O’Regan, Minister of Natural Resources added, “Canadian innovation is putting us at the forefront of cleantech. I congratulate Opus One Solutions on being recognized as a 2020 Global Cleantech 100 company.”

Utilities in North America have been implementing Opus One’s software in an effort to decarbonize their power systems, monetize the value of distributed energy and build resiliency in the most cost-effective way possible. The company most recently completed a project with Nova Scotia Power in which a microgrid controlled by Opus One’s software provided nearly 19 hours of reliable back-up power during Hurricane Dorian. Other innovative projects include:

  • a distribution system planning project with Hawaiian Electric that aims to help the utility reach its 100-percent renewable energy goal by 2045;
  • developing one of Canada’s first net-zero smart communities with Bracebridge Generation in Parry Sound; and
  • a transactive energy market simulation with Ameren on one of the most technologically advanced utility-scale microgrids in North America.

Reflecting on the impact of the company’s software at utilities around the world and continued recognition on the Cleantech 100 list, Josh Wong, Opus One’s Founder and CEO said, “Receiving this recognition once again proves that our team is working on something that is truly making a difference in our power systems and helping to decarbonize our planet.”

The 2020 Global Cleantech 100 is the 11th edition of the respected annual guide to the leading companies and themes in sustainable innovation. It features the private, independent and for-profit companies best positioned to contribute to a more digitized, de-carbonized and resource-efficient industrial future.

The list combines Cleantech Group’s research data with qualitative judgements from nominations and insight from a global 80-member expert panel of leading investors and executives from corporations and industrials active in technology and innovation scouting. From pioneers and veterans to new entrants, the expert panel broadly represents the global cleantech community and results in a list with a powerful base of respect and support from many important players within the cleantech innovation ecosystem. The Global Cleantech 100 program is sponsored by Chubb.

“It feels right that our first list of the future-defining 2020s, should see a continued strengthening in the representation of truly impactful and necessary innovations to transform our diets, to enable a more renewable-heavy energy system, and to capture and utilize the vast levels of CO2 we have been freely emitting for decades,” said Richard Youngman, CEO, Cleantech Group. “Also included in our 2020 list are some big and critical shots at solving global problems – from proving out fusion and next-gen batteries to zero carbon aviation.”
